Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced Thursday that a husband and wife were hit by a BMW early Thursday morning in Newark.

Jose Goncalves, 52, of Union was struck and killed in the vicinity of Park Avenue and 7th Street in Newark. Mr. Goncalves was standing outside his lunch truck "Joe's Café'' with his wife, Vania Goncalves, when he was hit and his wife was grazed by the BMW.

Mr. Goncalves was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:56 a.m. His wife was treated and released. The driver of the BMW Sharese Fisher, 31, of East Orange was being treated for shock.
