JERSEY CITY SANDY RECOVERY
NEW YORK - The three founding volunteers of Jersey City Sandy Recovery, who banded together less than two weeks ago to help their neighbors struck by Hurricane Sandy, were honored earlier this week at Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year 2012 awards.
Tiby Kantrowitz, Candice Osborne and Dana Shilling were among representatives of 11 groups recognized for their relief efforts during a celebrity-packed ceremony on Nov. 12 at Carnegie Hall.
Other Sandy relief groups introduced by Newark Mayor Cory Booker included the American Red Cross and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The gathering was part of Glamour’s annual Women of the Year awards. The magazine’s December issue will feature other honorees including actress Selena Gomez, US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Ethel Kennedy and daughter Rory, and the “Fierce Five” US Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnasts.
"To be recognized at the same ceremony with women like Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg was incredibly humbling. To draw awareness to our volunteer efforts in Jersey City is thrilling,” Osborne said after the event.
We are very proud of these dedicated members of our team, as well as our nearly 600 volunteers.
A statement from Glamour cited “the incredible efforts of women throughout the Northeast who have stepped up to support their communities during and after Hurricane Sandy” and called the annual evening “the premier event honoring women from the United States and around the world.”
