GWB Fiasco: Political Retribution That Put Lives at Stake

In response to recent reports indicating that a deputy chief of staff in the office of Governor Chris Christie may have ordered the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge in September, New Jersey Working Families Alliance Policy and Communications Coordinator Rob Duffey issued the following statement:

“Every day New Jersey families, businesses, and first responders rely on the George Washington Bridge as a vital conduit. Now we have concrete proof that the Christie Administration saw them all as collateral damage in a vindictive quest to punish its political enemies.

"Most alarmingly, the traffic jam set into motion by members of the Christie Administration meant delayed responses to a heart attack and a missing child report. This is Chris Christie’s vision of bipartisanship: a culture of political retribution that puts the very lives of his own constituents at risk.”

The New Jersey Working Families Alliance is a coalition of community, environmental, consumer and citizen organizations dedicated to advancing progressive policies and politics in the Garden State.
