Time to take out those stretchy pants from the back of your closet.
A new study released by the fitness website, WeightTraining.com, found New Jersey to be among the nation’s leaders in holiday weight gain, packing on an average of 1.1 pounds of added weight.
Researchers collected information from the New England Journal of Medicine and America's Health Ranking, a non-profit health information organization of the United Health Foundation, and analyzed weight gain over the past two decades, breaking down holiday weight gain in person. According to PRwire.com, regression analysis was used to factor out weight gain over the rest of the year, to find which states gained the most, on average, per resident.
The research ranked all 50 states where Americans gained the most weight over the holidays, combining public health research and medical surveys, and revealed the Lone Star State led with packing on the pounds while the Garden State followed closely behind.
Arizona came in third with an added 1.06 pounds, Oklahoma with 1.04 pounds and Kansas at 1.03 pounds, bringing up the rear for holiday over-indulgences. All five states have an average weight gain of more than one pound per person each holiday season.
According to the data, men in New Jersey gained .91 pounds over the holidays while their Jersey Girls gained 1.31 pounds. New Jersey is the only state where the women have a large lead on the men in weight gain.
