Middlesex man gets 12 years for cocaine distribution

bars052109_optA Middlesex County man was sentenced to state prison Thursday after pleading guilty to distributing cocaine to an undercover detective, state Attorney General Anne Milgram announced.

State Criminal Justice Director Deborah L.Gramiccioni said Elvi Castro, 29, of Perth Amboy, was ordered by Superior Court Judge Frederick P. DeVesa in New Brunswick to serve 12 years in state prison with 51 months of parole ineligibility. Castro pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine.

Castro admitted that between May 21 and October 28, he sold cocaine to an undercover detective. During an investigation by the Division of Criminal Justice Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau, Castro sold the undercover detective approximately 11 ounces of cocaine, with a street value of more than $9,000.

On Jan. 30, Castro's brother, Danny Castro, 25, of Perth Amboy, pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine. He is awaiting sentencing.

Detectives Miguel Rodriguez and Louis Renshaw coordinated the investigation.
