N.J. Assembly Republican leaders call for action on tax relief legislation

decroceAlex120511_optWith less than a month left in the lameduck legislative session, Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce (R-Morris) and Conference Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Union), Monday called on Democrats to work with Republicans to provide tax relief.

“We’ve achieved tremendous reform for the taxpayers through the bipartisan property tax cap and pension and healthcare reform,” DeCroce said at a Statehouse press conference. “This session cannot end with unfinished work on our desks. There are substantial proposals that would deliver real savings to taxpayers, but they are conspicuous by their absence from the Assembly’s agenda.”

Legislation DeCroce and Bramnick want to see approved includes barring payouts to public employees who don’t use sick time, relief for cities and towns from what they sees as outdated, inefficient and costly Civil Service laws, and the removal of cost-impediments for municipalities attempting to save money through consolidation.

“It’s time for policy to trump politics and we should be working together to reduce costs for taxpayers to jump start the economy and create jobs,” DeCroce added. “This Assembly has been on holiday for five months and today is the day to resume working for the people of New Jersey.”

“Let’s debate these reforms on the floor right now,” Bramnick added. “Taxpayers need relief and we owe them an up or down vote on legislation like this that will save them money. Ignoring these common sense solutions won’t lower taxes or create a single job.”
