The New Jersey Education Association's political action committee has voted to endorse only seven of the 13 Democratic candidates for Congress in the November and none of the 13 Republicans.
The statewide teachers' union announced Monday it is backing Rep. Rob Andrews (1st), Rep. John Adler (3nd), Rep. Frank Pallone (6th), Rep. Bill Pascrell (8th), Rep. Steven Rothman (9th), Rep/ Donald Payne (10th), and Rep. Rush Holt (12th).
Democrat Albio Sires (13th) was not endorses and neither were Republican Representatives Frank LoBiondo (2nd), Chris Smith (4th), Scott Garrett (5th), Leonard Lance (7th) and Rodney Frelinghuysen (11th) nor their five Democratic challengers.
The union endorsed Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Middlesex) in the 14th District state Senate race but did not endorse in the 5th District Senate and Assembly races in Camden County.
NJEA officials did not immediately provide a reason for their choices.
The union represents more than 200,000 teachers and support staff and its endorsement is especially coveted because it provides volunteers to help turn out the vote.
