Ocean City fortune teller predicts ‘hell' for gay customer

crystalball_optShe should have seen it coming.

A Los Angeles man on vacation in Ocean City stopped for a Tarot card reading on the Boardwalk. But card reader June Mitchell's dire prediction about her client's hereafter led to a public dust-up, a police investigation and a petition drive, the Press of Atlantic City reports.

Mitchell told client Jamie Cohen, 22, who is gay, that he was going to hell. After hearing a little more from Mitchell, Cohen stormed out without paying her $20 fee, and that's when things got really ugly.

According to the news account, Cohen returned to retrieve his cell phone, which he had left under his chair. He says Mitchell ordered him out of the store and, in front of a crowd, used an anti-gay slur.

Mitchell admits using the word, but says Cohen called her a Gypsy; Cohen denies this. Mitchell also says she was upset by Cohen's reaction to the reading and the way he left without paying.

Mitchell says she had not meant to offend him.

"I wanted to make him happy," she says.

A born-again Christian, Mitchell says her religious doctrine opposes homosexuality.

the bigger irony of "born again" Christians is that Jesus never says the phrase "born again". It comes from a misreading of the Greek.

Religion is not the problem here. ORGANIZED religion is the problem. Whether you believe in the Bible or not, the new testament is full of stories where Jesus is being tolernat of and loving to all sorts of people that others look down upon (prostitutes, tax collectors, etc.). It is only when small-minded people gather together and interpret the Bible to match their feelings and fears that we all run into trouble.

If someone is different than you are but is not hurting anyone, then why do you care? Live and let live, especially if you are going to say "what would Jesus do?"

Fags Hate God
Fags Hate God

See just because you can string 3 words together in a sensational manner doesn't make you cool, right or even intelligent "God Hates Fags"

If you really want to go after some homosexuals why not start with the Catholic Church? Afterall, atleast homosexual men consent to what's being done to them; the kiddies however not so much. You would keep yourself busy for the rest of your useless life while clearing the rift raft out of your "devine" organization. Hmmm but then would would teach Sunday school? Eh, deal with one issue at a time before your ears start smoking.

Ok, wow, this is kind of funny. Where is Bruno when you need him? And I suppose if we all in the US followed Leviticus then we'd all be in a pickle. I just hope for both of their souls neither one one them had bacon with their pancakes that morning! Lol

Hilarious. This lady is performing a Pagan ritual. Fortune telling, communing with dead spirits. Lying signs and omens. Next time she gets born again, I hope she gets it right. 3rd times the charm, right?

Ok she is obviously in the wrong because she gave the fortune (how many tellers would actually tell the customer this? maybe the chance of going there but come on your going to loose business, unless of course you want to loose HIS business).

And being called a Gypsy "(is a) member of a wandering race (by themselves called Romany), of Hindu origin, which first appeared in England about the beginning of the 16th c. and was then believed to have come from Egypt"
Woo big words indeed, god forbid anyone ever call me German or Canadian because then it's really going to get ugly *insert sarcasm here*

"I wanted to make him happy" - nice try at PR lady but too little too late don't you think?

As for being a "born-again Christian" well that's the universal symbol of Crackpot!!! Nice how the The Bible could use that quote to put you into perspective and how religion is just used for your benefit only and is otherwise ignored.

According to the Bible, fortune telling is a sin punishable by death. Pot meet Kettle.

Ms. Mitchell, admitting that you're a born-again to the media seems a little dumb, don'tcha think? And while I'm sure that it has no influence on what you say in your line of work, it's certainly something that will cause eyebrows to raise. Once you admitted that, you pretty much admitted fault.

While I agree wth your Lev 20:27, the very same book speaks about homosexuality a few versus earlier.

Lev 20:13
'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

The whole thing is pretty stupid.

Leviticus 20:27 - "A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them."

Ummm, June? Perhaps you should look up "hypocrisy"? Oh, and the Bible says FAR more against fortune telling than homosexuality.
