Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-6th.) Wednesday sent a letter to President Obama asking the federal government to approve federal disaster aid for New Jersey in response to the blizzard that slammed the state Sunday and Monday.
Pallone asked the president to make a formal declaration of major disaster areas in order for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to quickly provide assistance to local governments, and residents impacted by the storm.
Here is the letter:
December 29, 2010
Dear President Obama:
I write to request your review and approval of federal disaster assistance to the State of New Jersey in the wake of the winter snow storm which has struck the northeast. An official request for federal aid is being organized by the Christie Administration and I ask that you act to approve the much needed assistance. Your declaration of major disaster areas will allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide important disaster assistance. The winter snow storm has left as much as thirty two inches of snow in certain areas and created snow drifts up to five feet. The winter storm has created dangerous circumstances that have caused human and material harm. As state and local workers continue to clear roads, repair damage to buildings and electrical lines and reach snow-bound residents, it is important that all the resources necessary are provided without delay.
The residents of New Jersey have been stranded by the devastating impacts of the winter storm and need swift help from the federal government to begin to put their lives back together and replace property that was destroyed. It is vital that FEMA work with state and local officials to determine where disaster aid is needed and identify the most effective means of providing assistance.
I urge you to act so that FEMA can immediately take the steps necessary for the residents of New Jersey to quickly get the answers and assistance they need. I ask that, as we work to ensure the federal government protects the residents affected by this winter storm, you immediately contact my office if I can be of any assistance in your efforts.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my request.

It's become time that NJ stands its ground and refuses to send any more monies to Washington DC. The monies saved by doing this would more than pay for any Federal aid (that comes with strings attached), and more than pay for most, if not all of our state programs, that we rely upon the Feds to subsidize.
