Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced Tuesday Bianca K. Young, 24, had been charged with the murder of her daughter 5-year-old Charlize Young.
Judge Joseph Cassini, 3rd, signed a warrant late Tuesday charging Young with murdering her daughter. The mother was taken into custody soon after the daughter’s death. Bail has been set at $400,000 by Judge Cassini.
On Sunday, Mother’s Day, the mother and her boyfriend – who is not the father of the child — rushed the little girl to the hospital around 11 p.m. She was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital.
An autopsy performed on the child determined she died from blunt impact injuries. The death was ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner. The preliminary investigation indicates the child was struck and sustained injuries that caused internal bleeding.
The Division of Youth and Family Services has taken custody of another child, a four-year-old daughter. The mother is currently pregnant with a third child.
Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, head of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, said the investigation is active and ongoing.
