Princeton loses No. 1 ranking in Forbes magazine poll

princeton080709_optNo. 70 Drew is New Jersey's next-highest ranked school; Rutgers No. 437

Princeton University is no longer the No. 1 college in the U.S., according to Forbes magazine's second-annual poll of America's best college's.

It's No. 2, behind the U.S. Military Academy.

The next highest placing New Jersey institution of higher education was Drew University (70), followed by Montclair State University (288), the College of New Jersey (310), Rutgers-New Brunswick (437), Rutgers-Newark , Seton Hall University (444), Rutgers-Newark (484), Stevens Institute of Technology (548), Farleigh Dickinson University (586), and Rider University (589).

The Forbes list ranked colleges based on how well they met student needs, taking into account things like student evaluations on the Web site ratemyprofessors.com, appearances in Who's Who in America, the average salaries of graduates reported by Payscale.com, according to mycentraljersey.com.

Other factors included how much debt students had after graduation and how many alumni and faculty were awarded Rhodes Scholarships or Nobel Prizes.

Heartening and welcome news...From receiving the alumni newsletter over the past several years, I could see the varied and innovative programs that Dr Cole was implementing to enhance the student experience..
My wife and I attended the Fall 2008 Centennial celebratiion and the campus, although still retaining the lovely Spanish architecture in the older buildings, was much improved with the addition of University Hall and the renovation of the ampitheater. Looking forward to the renovation of Panzer Gym. Great job by the MSU administration in retaining the old school beauty and charm and adding modern green building practices and IT amenities. The student center pool and fitness center is terrific as well.

As a recent grad, I must say that I loved MSU! I loved the small classes, the awesome professors and the great people I met there. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent, yet affordable, college education!

I graduated in 2006, now finishing up med school and I've been missing MSU since then!! MSU really is New Jersey's hidden treasure college: cheaper than most NJ colleges, it gives you the opportunities of very large universities, with the feel of a small college. And the school continually gets better and better! Congrats MSU! You deserve it!
