colemanmarlin090210_optA minor drug case escalated into attempted murder and armed robbery charges against two Newark women after their car knocked down police officers as they fled the scene, according to Bergen County authorities.

Fair Lawn police were called to a Walgreen's Pharmacy on the evening of September 1 for woman with a suspected fraudulent prescription for Oxycodone, according to Bergen Prosecutor John Molinelli.

When officers arrived, the woman fled to a waiting car. As one officer got to the car, it quickly backed up, knocking him over, according to authorities. The car then accelerated toward Sgt. Mike Mussina, who fired two shots before he was struck and thrown over the hood of the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle left the scene, but witnesses were able to provide a description, according to the prosecutor. Investigators found a Maroon Lexus with two apparent bullet holes parked in a lot on Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark.

Authorities impounded the car and interviewed the owner, Priscilla Coleman, 31. They identified her as the driver at the time of the incident. Continued investigation led to charges against Cyrinthia Marlin, 30, as the person who presented the phony prescription.

The pair were hit with a long list of charges, which also included aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrests, attempted theft by deception and uttering a forged instrument. Coleman also was charged with eluding.

Bail was set for each woman at $1 million with no 10 percent cash option, according to Molinelli.
