New Jersey's Republican and Democratic party leaders have agreed on the dates for four public hearings by the Apportionment Commission on reapportionment of the state's Congressional districts.

The first will be held next Wednesday at Rutgers Law School in Newark. The second on Jan. 13 at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City. The third on Jan. 18 at Rowan University in Glassboro, and the fourth on Jan. 20 at the Ocean County Administration Building in Toms River. The hearings will begin at 6 p.m.

Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris), the Republican chairman, Wednesday wrote Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), the Democratic chairman, that he would like to hold additional public hearings.

New Jersey lost one of its 13 Congressional seats as a result of the 2010 U.S. census finding that the state lost population. Observers believe Rep. Albio Sires (D-13th.) could be the congressman to lose his seat.

The commission that handles congressional districts has 13 members, gets appointed in June, and has until January 2012 to complete their work. The commission that is operating now has 11 members (or will, once the inevitable deadlock between the 10 partisan members is acknowledged) and is concerned with state legislature districts.

Please confirm as soon as possible that these meeting are for legislative, not Congressional.

As Chairman of the Bayshore Tea Party Group Redistricting Committee, I am quite certain that you have posted this incorrectly.

Please contact me if you need more info.
