Governor Jon Corzine Wednesday announced the appointment of retired New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice James R. Zazzali and retired Justice Stewart G. Pollock to the state Advisory Panel on Ethics.
They replace the late Justice Daniel O'Hern and former state Attorney General John Farmer Jr.
"Jim Zazzali and Stewart Pollock are two of New Jersey's finest legal minds who have ably demonstrated their judicial integrity and commitment to upholding the law through their distinguished service to this state," Corzine said. "They are both excellent choices to serve on this advisory panel."
The bi-partisan panel is comprised of two public members who advise the governor regarding conflicts issues and application of the Governor's Code of Conduct. Members must have served as either chief counsel to the governor, as attorney general, as Supreme Court justice or a Superior Court judge to be considered for appointment. Terms are for three years.Zazzali was nominated chief by Corzine in 2006. He was nominated by Gov. Christie Whitman to the high court in 2000. Prior to his service on the bench, Zazzali served as attorney general from 1981 to 1982 and as chairman of the State Commission of Investigation from 1989 to 1993. He served for 15 years on the Disciplinary Review Board - the attorney disciplinary committee. He also served on the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct - the disciplinary board for judges. Zazzali is currently with Gibbons P.C. and with Zazzali Fagella.
Pollock, a former assistant U.S. attorney, served as chief counsel to Gov. Brendan T. Byrne from 1978-1979. He was the nominated by Byrne to the Supreme Court in 1979 and reappointed by Gov. Thomas H. Kean. Pollock has also served as a commissioner of the state Board of Public Utilities and a member of the State Commission of Investigation. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Law Center Foundation at New York University School of Law, and co-chairs the Governor's Judicial Advisory Panel and the Supreme Court Committee on Professional Rules of Responsibility. He is also a federal court mediator. Currently, he is with Riker Danzig.
