State Senate Majority Leader Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), chairwoman of the upper house's Legislative Oversight Committee, Wednesday announced that she will convene a hearing on June 2 to discuss the future of the state's various investigative authorities and Gov. Chris Christie's proposal to merge the State Commission of Investigation, the Inspector General and the Medicaid Inspector General into the Office of the Comptroller.
The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Statehouse Annex in Trenton.
Scheduled to testify are: Comptroller Matthew Boxer, Inspector General Mary Jane Cooper, SCI Commissioner Cary Edwards, Medicaid Inspector General Mark Anderson, and former State Auditor Richard Fair, who is now the director of Rutgers University's Masters Program in Governmental Accounting.
Additionally, Florida's Inspector General Melinda Miguel, who is the first vice president of the National Inspector Generals' Association, will offer her insight and Michael P. Riccards, director of the Hall Institute of Public Policy, will detail his research on an elected versus an appointed state comptroller.– TOM HESTER SR., NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM
