An Essex County woman was sentenced Thursday to state prison for possessing phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP or angel dust, which she intended to distribute last June
Stephanie Afonso, 22, of Newark, was sentenced to six years, with 36 months of parole ineligibility, by state Superior Court Judge David H. Ironson in Morristown, according to state Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor. The sentence was based on Afonso's Nov. 20 guilty plea to possession of PCP with intent to distribute.
In pleading guilty, Afonso admitted that on June 4, she possessed at least 10 grams of PCP, a hallucinogen and intended to distribute it. An undercover investigation determined that she intended to distribute the drug from her home. Afonso was arrested on June 4 after members of the state Division of Criminal Justice executed a search warrant at her residence.
Det. Louis Renshaw and Deputy Attorney General Richard Queen coordinated the investigation.
