Thousands of members of the Communications Workers of America will take to the streets on Thursday, at noon to protest Governor Christie's proposed budget cuts.
At dozens of sites around the state, workers will be holding signs saying:
"Christie's cuts hurt NJ"
"Christie's Budget Hurts the Vulnerable; Protects the Millionaires"
"Privatization = Bad Services, No Savings"
Hetty Rosenstein, state director for the Communications Workers of America, said:
"Governor Christie's doomsday budget would devastate a wide range of public services, but asks nothing of those who can most afford to give. In these tough times, the Governor must ask everyone to sacrifice, not just those who depend on public schools, public roads and our health care safety net. That means not giving millionaires a break by letting the surcharge on the wealthiest New Jerseyans expire.
"The men and women who do the state's work have stepped up to make more than $450 million in wage and benefit sacrifices over the last three years. We're sending a message that those who have made billions, including rewards collected from the public's bailout of their companies must do their share as well."

The pension payment thing is a kick in the butt only because he bashed everybody else for doing it, then he does the same thing and only says there should be reform....So folks still get there pension checks even though the state hasn't been paying into the pension fund......thats a problem.
Also the fact thatall municipalites will not receive the same percentage cut on the amount of reward given to them is unfair. A 5% cut on their total budget, not a 5% cut on the amount of funds given to them by the state. That seems a little unconstitutional. So in short the 5% total budget cut would mean 50%+ cut in actual state aid for 1 municipality, but could equate to less than 2% for another municipality. In particular suburbs will feel this the most.
The pension fund Bills? State workers currently employed are NOT EFFECTED by those Bills.
Paying for health care? State workers already pay a percentage for their health care.
Layoffs? Virtually no unionized state workers are being let go in this budget.
Pay freezes? CWA unionized workers are getting a 3.5% pay raise on July 1.
State Public Services cut? What cuts? Most state departments were given reduced budgets to work with but no severe cuts were announced.
As a state worker I asked the leadership what I am supposed to be "going to the streets " about. I was told in angry terms ," Christie and Sweeney and the rest of them are no good,we must stick together and fight".
"Fight what", I asked. "Don't start any trouble", I was told.
I am a state worker who will be at work today. I hope the sheep who follow without asking questions enjoy their day.
