Zartin of West Caldwell charged with setting her house on fire

ZartinElizabeth110409_optWest Caldwell Police have arrested Elizabeth Zartin, 47, on charges arising from a fire at her family's Mountain Avenue home in West Caldwell.

The Sunday evening fire caused substantial damage to the 2-story structure. Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's Arson Task Force have determined that the fire was intentionally set. No residents of the home were injured as a result of the fire, but one responding firefighter was slightly injured.

Zartin, who was arrested on Monday, has been charged with second-degree aggravated arson, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree aggravated assault upon responding emergency personnel.

She is being held in the Essex County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow commended Detectives John Nichols, Marlin Bullock and Lance Nero of the Essex County Prosecutor's Arson Task Force, along with Sgt. John Kopf and Detective Shawn O'Dowd of the West Caldwell Police Department for the investigation.
