“Orna and Jay” want their nearly 2-year old adopted son Ben to have a brother or sister.
Their odds of adding to their family may be limited because they have found that birth mothers appear to lean toward couples with no children for adoptions.
So the Maryland couple, who are not revealing their real names, have taken out a billboard on the New Jersey Turnpike to advertise their availability for adoption. CBS New York reported that the advertisement came with their photo and contact information, and the message, “Loving Couple Looking To Adopt.”
Orna and Jay have their reasons for using the billboard, besides being innovative, and having some spare cash to use for advertising. Jay told CBS New York, “Our goal is to market ourselves to people to let them know there’s an option for the 16-, 18-, 20-, or 25-year-old young woman who isn’t ready to be a mom.”
Also, they chose to adopt in New Jersey because birth mothers only get 72 hours to reconsider their decision, compared to 28 days in Maryland.
And the couple has put together a website to reveal information about themselves. They note that their home environment is favorable toward raising a young child.
According to Adopt 2013, their home has three bedrooms, and is in a neighborhood of young families. And a top elementary school with a large playground sits behind their house.
Also, Orna and Jay said on the web site that their prospective second child would have no shortage of playmates. The couple has thirteen nieces and nephews under age 13 in their family.
