Mattel’s statement about the campaign said it was “honored” by the request, but did not say it would manufacture the doll. But according to Forbes, Sypin and Bingham received a form letter reading: Mattel doesn’t accept ideas from outside sources. Barbie’s sales have fallen off in the 2000s.

Barbie has been an astronaut, an architect, a NASCAR driver, and a news anchor. She has been tattooed and broke up with Ken from 2004 to 2011. She is nearly 53 years old.
