Newsmax Magazine, an independent news publication with a conservative perspective, has named Brick Township and Franklin Township in New Jersey the No. 6 and the No. 22nd city, respectively, in America on a list of the “Most Uniquely American Cities & Towns.” The list of 25 cities was compiled by Newsmax and Peter Greenberg, travel editor of NBC’s Today Show and was determined by the city’s proximity to medical care, public spaces, civic events, churches, school curricula, etc..
Newsmax characterizes Brick Township this way: It’s okay to leave your door unlocked in this Jersey city. Brick Township, which is right outside of Manhattan, has easy access to the Big Apple but prides itself on its small-town charm. The 32-square-mile city, with a population of just over 78,000, hovers consistently around the top of the list of America’s safest cities, according to the FBI.
The commercial development of big-box stores, department stores, and chain restaurants has made it a shopping destination for much of northern Ocean County.
Newsmax characterizes Franklin Township this way: Its history and proximity to Manhattan are pluses, but Franklin Township’s key elements are family friendliness, diverse population, and community projects. Business thrives on high-tech, pharmaceutical, and research firms, but the place also has an emerald ambience: It boasts 10 parks, including the 542-acre Colonial Park with a bicycle path, arboretum, and leash-free dog run. The William L. Hutcheson Memorial Forest encompasses a 65-acre old-growth forest that’s a National Historical Landmark.
