The state's Division of Consumer Affairs takes you on a tour of the beauty industry in Rule Proposal, Volume 40, Issue 23. This legislation is sure to stimulate tourism at the Jersey Shore. Or, work as a stimulus for beauty salons in New York and Pennsylvania. But it is causing a stir at home. Those at PolitickerNJ and Baristanet are having a field day with the issue.
And this all-important debate doesn't even include the Association for Salon and Spa Professionals located in Union. The ASSP is actively lobbying for the ban on the Brazilian wax be lifted. Did you even know it was banned? And, how has law enforcement been enforcing that law?
In a letter to Robert J. Gilson, Assistant Attorney General, Chairman of ASSP, Rosemary T. Weiner writes: "We believe that the proposed new language, associated with this issue, unfairly intrudes upon the right of the business owners, which we represent, to conduct their business in a manner which allows them to keep pace with the industry trends and consumers needs. Further, we believe that the general public has a right to obtain a reasonable, contemporary, service which is already being legally provided in other states in this country."
