Nabisco gay pride Oreo gets mixed response

There’s the double stuffed, golden, and mini Oreos, and now Nabisco came out with a new Oreo concept.

This past weekend, Nabisco released a picture on their Facebook page that features a six-layer stuffing featuring the colors of the rainbow flag. The six layered Oreo cookie was headlined “June 25 / Pride” and “Proudly support love!” according to Reuters.

According to the Oreo fan page on Facebook, the gay pride cookie has received over 226,000 likes and has been shared nearly 70,000 times.

Kraft’s associate director of corporate affairs, Basil Maglaris told Reuters that the positive comments have outnumbered the negative ones. Malgaris also said that Kraft Foods has a history of celebrating diversity and inclusiveness.

“As a company, Kraft Foods has a proud history of celebrating diversity and inclusiveness. We feel the Oreo ad is a fun reflection of our values,” said Magkaris to Reuters.

The rainbow Oreo cookie is not available in stores as it states under the picture, “Made with crème colors that do not exist.”

I wish they did sell that in stores because I'd buy it for all that cream filling. The same sex marriage debate has increasingly gained support of major corporations and I don't see it diminishing any time soon so we might as well get used to it.

I don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal about this. For one, who cares who you love? Whether it's a man and man, a woman and a woman, or a man and a woman, all that matters is that there is love there. Not loving each other is what is killing this world. If we could all love each other for who we are, there would be no fighting.

For two, you all should be more concerned with GMOs.They are poison for us, the animals, and the environment. Monsanto, the maker of pesticide, also deals with these GMOs. If that doesn't put up a red flag to you, then I hope you enjoy your cancer.

I think not, but time will tell. My father has been an Oreo fan for 70 years and passed that down to our family of 25. We're done. We knew Oreos weren't healthy, but loved and bought them anyway for decades. Nabisco just made it easy to make a healthier choice and walk by them in the store. Oreos were a fun, shared family dessert, not a political statement for us. Farewell.

Sorry; I have a gay brother, and I think it's inappropriate for a food company - or any company for that matter - to be "celebrating" sexuality pride in any form. We all know there are homosexuals in the world; it shouldn't be paraded down the main street (literally or figuratively) anymore than heterosexuality should be.

We've evolved to a point where diversity and inclusion have become code words for awarding jobs to people who may have secured them based on something other than merit - and it's now fashionable to hire someone who's designated a "minority" - the definition of which keeps expanding.

MLK would most likely be appalled.

I really think you're overestimating the negative response, the number of overall users "liking" oreo has gone up by over 1 million at this point.
