A mother from New Jersey who participated in an educational video about breastfeeding has learned some harsh lessons about business.
Fair Lawn mother Mary Ann Sahoury said she agreed to appear in a video on Parents.com that would help new mothers who are considering breastfeeding. But the video was later edited, and turned up on several pornographic websites.
The film was first seen on Parents TV’s website and Youtube channel. But the video was edited into pornography and used Sahoury’s full name. “It went from me talking, to a woman who looked like me having sex,” Sahoury told CBS New York. “It was a full porn video, maybe six or seven minutes long.”
Mail Online reported that Sahoury has filed a lawsuit against Parents TV and their parent company, the Meredith corporation, claiming the video caused her "humiliation, severe stress, anxiety, panic attacks, crying and shaking spells, vomiting, depression, sleeplessness, anger, sadness, and an obsession with trying to clear her and her daughter's name."
According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, Meredith said in a statement: “Meredith was appalled to learn someone misused a video meant to help new mothers. We took immediate action, hiring leading law firms and online specialists to file take-down demands, clear online caches and create positive references. We took these actions even though Ms. Sahoury signed a release authorizing use of the video across all media platforms, and holding Meredith harmless for any potential misuse by a third party."
Sahoury said she didn’t read the release because she had been through things before with the company, and claims she was verbally assured the video would only use first names.
She expressed concerns about the reactions of her daughter’s friends if they find the video. In an Associated Press report on the Huffington Post, Sahoury said, "I need to be as strong as I was when I made the video and say, look, I'm still supporting mothers rights to breast-feed wherever and whenever we want and not be exploited by major corporations or perverts."
