N.J. State Troopers to host injured solders from Iraq and Afghanistan

njstatepollogo032310_optNon-profit group plans recreational weekend for wounded warriors in Sea Girt

A New Jersey State Troopers organization will hold a recreational weekend Sept. 17-19 for injured soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Troopers Assisting Troops is working with 35 soldiers from the U.S. Army's wounded warrior transition units based at Fort Dix and Fort Drum, N.Y.

The transition units provide staging areas where returning casualties are temporarily stationed until they return to active duty or are discharged from the military as the result of wounds or injuries suffered in-theatre.

Scheduled events for the Sea Girt September weekend include fishing trips, musical and comedy shows and a barbecue, intended as a welcome and relaxing break for injured soldiers from the tedium of a hospital environment and the rigors of strenuous rehabilitation programs.

A non-profit group of retired and active State Troopers and friends, TAT was established in 2009. The group decided to focus on an annual, and held its first, which was attended by local wounded warriors as well as soldiers from Forts Dix and Drum, that September in Sea Girt.

In keeping with the organization's efforts to provide continuing support for wounded soldiers through sponsorship of local recreational and rehabilitation programs, TAT works closely with, and draws on the expertise, knowledge and assistance of the nationally known Wounded Warrior Project of Jacksonville, Florida.
