Preservation New Jersey (PNJ), the statewide historic preservation advocacy and education organization, announced the winners of their Best of New Jersey Heritage Tourism 2009 contest. Wildwoods-by-the-Sea, the shore town best known for its remarkable collection of mid-twentieth century resort architecture, took first place with 217 votes.
The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse in North Wildwood came in second with 134 votes, and the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms in Parsippany, third, with 49 votes.
Other popular submissions included: Cadwalader Heights Historic District in Trenton, the Alice Paul Institute in Mount Laurel, the River Line Bed and Breakfast Inn in Riverton, Allaire Village and the restored locomotive in Allaire State Park, Ferry Slip Museum in Perth Amboy, Haddie the Hadrosaurus in Haddonfield, and Lucy the Elephant in Margate.
There were 35 total submissions.
PNJ encourages the public to investigate the renowned, one-of-a-kind historic and cultural sites throughout New Jersey and support heritage tourism in the Garden State.
