The Crossroads of the American Revolution Association has received a $9,600 grant from the state Council for the Humanities to support the creation of an online digital library that will director the public to visitor-ready Revolutionary War sites in 14 New Jersey Counties, Cate Litvack, the organization's director announced Wednesday.
The Crossroads was designated by Congress in 2006 to manage New Jersey's National Heritage Area, the Crossroads of the American Revolution. The heritage area comprises 213 cities and towns within the 14 counties and stretches from the heights of the Palisades in Bergen County to the banks of the Delaware River in Gloucester County.
Working in collaboration with Morristown National Historical Park, Crossroads develops and implements programs and promotes a public-private partnerships that attempts to enhance, preserve and promote the significance of New Jersey in the founding of the United States.
The digital library is expected to go online next year. The library will also include non-visitor ready sites that may be in danger of destruction. Narratives accompanying the images will describe the sites, place them within the cultural and heritage context of the Revolution and also discuss the significance of New Jersey to our national struggle for independence.The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
