Princeton University has earned the No. 2 spot on Forbes’ annual best colleges list for the second year in a row, it was announced yesterday.
Thirteen other New Jersey colleges and universities also made the list, which listed Williams College in Massachusetts its top choice.
Forbes.com reported that the list of more than 600 undergraduate institutions is based on the quality of the education they provide, the experiences of the students and how much they achieve.
"We continue to be pleased to be recognized for our quality of education, our commitment to financial aid initiatives that make a Princeton education accessible to all admitted students and the strength of the individual programs we offer," said Princeton spokeswoman Emily Aronson told the Star-Ledger.
"Still, we feel that no formulaic rankings can truly capture the distinctiveness of any institution, or determine which university might be an appropriate match for an individual student."
Last year, the U.S. military academy at West Point was top-ranked.According to the reports, the rankings are based on 11 factors, listed in five general categories: student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, four-year graduation rate and competitive awards.
Additional criteria, such as graduates' success after leaving the college, the number of alumni listed in a Forbes list of corporate officers and enrollment-adjusted entries in Who's Who in America, are also considered.
