To recognize exceptional parents who defy the limitations of paralysis, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation today announced its call for entries for the organization’s Best Mom on Wheels and Best Dad on Wheels contests.
For both programs, individuals can nominate a biological, adoptive or foster mother or father in the United States who is living with paralysis. The nomination can be submitted by anybody who knows the mother or father and must include an essay up to 200 words that demonstrates the impact she or he has had on the family and community. Nominators must submit a photo and also have the option of uploading a video.
“The responsibilities of being a parent are endless, and there are many men and women who take on those responsibilities in the face of their own physical challenges,” said Peter T. Wilderotter, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation President and CEO. “Through our annual Best Mom on Wheels and Best Dad on Wheels contests, we will once again honor two individuals living with paralysis who exhibit the compassion, fortitude and positivity needed to embrace family life, and serve not only as inspirations to other parents with paralysis, but also to able-bodied parents and their communities.”
For both programs, a panel of judges will review the nominations and select 10 semi-finalists, who will be featured on ChristopherReeve.org. The public will be invited to review the finalist nominations and cast their votes. The winner of each contest will receive a $500 gift card from Tilt-A-Rack, producer of Mobility hitch-mounted aluminum carriers to make the transportation of wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters easier and eliminate the need for trailers.
Best Mom on Wheels
The call for nominations for the 3rd Annual Best Mom on Wheels contest opens on May 1. Nominations must be submitted on ChristopherReeve.org/BestMom no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on May 14.
