Cherry Hill High School East sophomore Amy Myers says she has nothing personal against Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann — she just thinks her inaccurate statements are an embarrassment to all women who have political ambitions. But some online comments in response to Myers’ debate challenge have taken it personally.
Myers wrote an open letter to Bachmann dated April 29 challenging her to a debate on the US Constitution. Amy and her father, Wayne, posted the letter to Bachmann on CNN's iReport website on May 6. Now Amy Myers says she fears for her own safety.
The Myers said some comments on conservative websites threatened to publish their home address, while others threatened violence, or even rape. Amy Myers said a lot of them were calling her "a whore."
Myers asked a neighbor and his mail carrier to be alert for anyone suspicious. The family also suspects a neighbor may be posting negative comments about Amy.
