It makes no sense to place blame on the parents. It has happened and its done and over with. The only thing to do now is pray for the families of these children. My deepest and most heartfelt prayers go out to the families, may God give you peace. And may God have mercy on the people that had the audacity to show such blatant disrespect towards the parents. " Judge not that ye be judged."

I don't think publicly shaming the parents would do much good. However, I agree that some fault lies with them.

It is the responsibility of the parents to be their childrens' guardians, their protectors - their parents! It's no excuse to say they couldn't afford swimming lessons or didn't have access to a pool. I don't know how to fly a plane nor can I afford one; does that absolve me if I let my kids try to fly one?

I feel most sorry for the kids themselves. They are excused a certain amount for making poor decisions because they're impulsive and not fully mature. In other words, they're kids. That's where the parents come in.

The parents have experienced an emotional trauma that they didn't deserve, that no one deserves. But while emotional pain is the punishment for their poor judgment, the kids are the ones who lost their lives. It irritates me that it was their own children that had to suffer for their lack of responsibility.

It's a parents' duty to prepare their child for a world that is over 75% water. And it was certainly their fault they let the children get into water not knowing how to swim. Being poor is no excuse for not spending time teaching your child to survive. Sounds like complete laziness to me. Yes, having a swimming pool in your yard is a luxury. Knowing how to swim is not. It's just plain common sense, of which these parents have zero. This was Louisiana, not the Sahara.
