At the age of 18 - 19 I would borrow my fathers 1938 4 door Plymouth. Drive from Elizabeth (Bayway) N.J. about 35 miles to Leonardo, N.J. Commercial fishing area, buy bushels of blue claw crabs, 8 or 9 bushel. The usual price per bushel (are you ready?) was a dollar, that's right one buck. About 8 dozen crabs in the bushel. I would drive them to Park Ave. Linden near the exit of the then ESSO Refinery, now EXXON. Put up my sign "Live crabs $1 dollar a dozen. The cops got thiers free. I would make about $60 in one day. Gasoline was 11 cents a gallon. If I had leftovers I would drive them to a couple of bars down Elizabethport sold for $3 a bushel. Got stuck one Xmas ( couldn't give them away) Threw them into the Eliz. river. QUIT.
