Also, we've gone from energy returned on energy invested of 100:1 at the beginning of the Petroleum Age to less than 10:1. When it reaches 1:1, all profit potential will be gone and we end up living in a post-petroleum waste land of derelict machines and structures grown over by vines and billions dead and dying. But the pain will be felt long before 1:1. And it's way too late to fix it now.
