I just read this case as an addition to an assignment in my ethics and legal issues course. I am amazed at Kliene Von-Reiche, thinking she would get away with this. Another thing, if she is claiming that it was alright in her eyes since she had ended the client/counselor relationship, why then did she feel it necessary to lie about the sexual relationship and their activities on the trip. The truth is as a psychologist she knows the ethical and legal guidelines set forth in the ACA, 2006 Standard Casebook . She was not suppose to engage in any type of romantic, sexual, professional, or friendly relationship with a current or former client. There is a waiting period of at least five years of a client/counselor relationship, if they become romantically involved from the last date of the final session with the client. She knew better and took advantage of her position and relationship with the client. She should have to lose her license for more than just a few months. She got off easy to be honest.
