Great story. I think you are correct - the confederations cup is clearly not a major tournament but I think what is often overlooked is that this series of high-profile friendlies could be a ticket for some of the US-based American players to escape the dreadful MLS and play in Europe. There is still time to get a full season's experience playing against some of the better players in the world - just in time to be ready for the world cup.
