huge step backward

Professor Vera Bergelson seems to be advocating for widely acccepting and supporting criminals' rationalizations for their crimes. I don't need to read her book to understand how much it will harm victims who likely already face scorn by those who view crimes from the criminal's perspective. As a date rape survivor who didn't think reporting was a possibility because of pervasive victim blaming, I understand that this tunnel vision of fairness disregards the victims being blamed and serves as a fence between them and justice. Some victims of sex crimes can scale that wall, but most who try find the effort futile.
