Its so rare these days that we get the chance to think back as to how fortunate we are in today's hustle and bustle rat race of a world! My mom is from Jersey City, New Jersey and we were well aware of the UGRR as children to very active Civil/Human Rights struggles from 1960s till now. My parents Dr. John L Cashin Jr DDS (Meharry) & Joan Marie Carpenter BA(Fisk) MS (Columbia) and Grandparents Dr Marcus Carpenter MD (Howard) BS (Lincoln) & Dr Marie Carpenter PhD (Columbia) BA (Virginia Union), all made sure we understood UGRR, Reconstruction Acts, speeches and quotes from Frederick Douglass, Lincoln, John & Bob Kennedy, Sojourner Truth, Rev E. D. Nixon, John Mercer Langston, on & on. But my next mission is to visit Lawnside asap!
