It's a good start and ABOUT TIME!!!! My son has PDD, Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Born in '96, he is now 13. As I have done most of the work with him myself, after going to numerous workshops and seminars after his diagnosis at 3, and, of course, a few gifted and wonderful teachers, I find there are tons of programs for the very young, which of course there should be, but very little out there, that doesn't cost a couple of mortgage payments, for socialization skills for the adolescent. Social skills and relationships are of the upmost importance at this age. When I see the awkwardness and uncomfortable look on his face when he's with his older brother's friends and he comes to me and says, "I just want to go home", and withdraws more and I see the hurt and confusion in his eyes, like "what's wrong with me?" It kills me. The issue of social skills and relationships in adolescents with autism or autism spectrum disorders needs to be addressed a whole lot more! There's going to be a whole lot of these kids coming up the ranks, and very soon, if they're not there already. Thank you.
