Governor Christie is finally showing how a governor can make a reasonable attempt to tame runaway government spending....even though this is of course only the first act. He deserves support of the citizens.
The key problem is that the citizens in general have no clue as to how their state taxes are spent by state government.
For one important example;.........I would be surprised if more than one out of 100 taxpaying citizens realize that their NJ income taxes are completely dedicated to paying property tax "relief"........and nothing else. Many are therefore essentially paying income taxes to pay themselves a property tax rebate.....which is just silly. Many low income wage earners are paying income taxes that are then used to pay property tax rebates to relatively wealthy property owners........which should not be acceptable.
Most important however is that state government spending during the past 30+ years has increased much faster than general incomes.........which is simply not sustainable (now there is a fashionable "L" word that should be taken back by those in favor of a conservative philosophy of government spending).
