Old players looking for other work...

If the MLS was soooo good, they would get top quality players who want to stay here. At the moment, all that comes state side are aging players who don't have much left (Lundberg, Henry, Marquez) or teen agers looking to go to Europe (Adu). MLS is nothing more than a triple A league for everyone else.

there are leagues in every nation on earth, and many have good play and passionate fan bases even though it's a given that their best players will move up to the "big leagues" when they're good enough.

the Argentine and Brazilian leagues have always ended up sending their very best players over to Europe, and no one questions their validity.

Soccer is a world game, and while MLS should aspire to be the best it can be and continue to grow (as it has been doing), I for one will be happy if it can produce a growing # of young players who get their start in MLS and become worthy of transfer or sale to the EPL, etc.
