Is this a news story from Saturday Night Live? Approving a bill to install solar panels on top of closed landfills is a joke, and an obscene one. Most closed landfills contain carcinogenic chemicals. With no cleanup of these old dumpsites, cancer-causing chemicals within the landfills will continue to contaminate groundwater throughout New Jersey. The despicable state Senators appear "green" while putting the health of their citizens at risk. The ignorant director of New Jersey Sierra Club says, "This is even better than taking lemons and making lemonade; it's taking toxic leachate and turning it into clean energy." Do government agencies and so-called environmental organizations realize that one of the best ways to cure cancer is to prevent exposure to cancer-causing chemicals? These closed landfills should be cleaned up and not just covered up.
