Stop Scaring Those In Need

Watchdog groups are great, but they often, as in this case, go overboard and do more harm than good. Certainly, RM's are not for everyone. And seniors definitely need to do their homework and get all the facts. But the fact is, the majority of seniors who decide to go with an RM, are near destitute or already there. Their retirement accounts went Kapoot, or they didn't plan, and are now facing the harsh reality that life as a retiree isn't golden like the American Dream. They need help. They can't afford their mortgage payment, stay fed, clothed and clean, and enjoy life. They can't go out with their friends because they spent all their money on this other stuff. Does that mean an RM is the best thing, NO, but it COULD BE. If they have no other assets and are sitting on a goldmine (their house) then why not. They spent a lifetime paying for their house, now their house can pay them back. As long as they know their will be a loan on it, and all the details, they are fine. They WON'T lose their home, they WON'T have to pay for it. Who cares about Equity. Your equity does you no good when its tied up in the bricks and mortar and wood of your home.
