WHAT ARE THEY PROTESTING?

CWA leadership is stirring up the members and no one , not the members or the leadership, know what they are supposed to be upset with. The pension fund Bills? State workers currently employed are NOT EFFECTED by those Bills. Paying for health care? State workers already pay a percentage for their health care. Layoffs? Virtually no unionized state workers are being let go in this budget. Pay freezes? CWA unionized workers are getting a 3.5% pay raise on July 1. State Public Services cut? What cuts? Most state departments were given reduced budgets to work with but no severe cuts were announced. As a state worker I asked the leadership what I am supposed to be "going to the streets " about. I was told in angry terms ," Christie and Sweeney and the rest of them are no good,we must stick together and fight". "Fight what", I asked. "Don't start any trouble", I was told. I am a state worker who will be at work today. I hope the sheep who follow without asking questions enjoy their day.

If you're a state worker and you're happy with the budget proposal, you're living in a dream world. Christie called for a 9% cut in your pension, he's laying off 1700-2000 workers, he's not contributing to the pension, and he's making cuts that will inevitably lead to significant increases in your property taxes. At the same time, he's giving a free ride to the wealthiest people in the state. Sacrifice is fine in tough times, but it should be shared by those who can afford it the most.
