America’s fighting brave, who sacrifice all in the name of their country, are perennially touted as heroes. But when it actually comes to repaying them for their service when they come home, you would think that they were common pickpocket thieves. Facing PTSD and the inability to merge into civilian life is an ongoing problem for many of our servicemen and women, and it seems that President Obama just made life easier for them.
It seems the unemployment rate for veterans fell to its lowest level in more than three years, dropping to 6.9 percent, which is the lowest monthly unemployment rate for all veterans since before President Obama assumed office, according to Think Progress.
Unlike the Squeaker of the House, John Boehner, and his little band of Robespierre elves who prefer the troops fighting their commerce wars to ensuring economic opportunity for them upon coming home, President Obama helped shape legislation designed to improve the lives of our veterans, including tax incentives to businesses that hire veterans and signing an executive order to help as many as 126,000 veterans receive certification and training necessary for various manufacturing jobs around the country.
Unlike Mittens, who recently hired James Nicholson as head veterans policy advisor – President George W. Bush’s former political appointment – who has been regarded as the worst VA Secretary in the last decade, President Obama can do more than just pay lip service to the troops and play military dress-up to score political points.
So it’s probably no wonder that President Obama is way more popular with the troops. Indeed, a May poll showed that if the election were held today, Obama would win the veteran vote by as much as seven points over Romney, higher than his margin in the general population.
A Romney presidency would probably just make sure that they are wearing the best magic underwear and richest Crusader outfits, as they go off to fight Infidels in the Middle East and make the world safer for tax havens. But it looks like policies under Obama, well, actually support the troops.
