New Brunswick, NJ – Executive Women of New Jersey (”EWNJ”) has named Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) to its 2012 Business Honor Roll. The company was honored during EWNJ’s “Salute to the Policy Makers” 2012 Awards Dinner on May 17, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
According to Donna M. Meade, President, EWNJ, and Executive Director & President, JFKMC & Muhlenberg Foundations,” Campbell Soup Company has set an extraordinary example for other companies by cultivating a diverse and inclusive work environment that fosters opportunities for women and people of color to lead the organization, and provides a workplace that is both engaging and supportive of employees needs to balance the demands of work and family life. Not only are they one of New Jersey’s most deserving companies to this end, but they are a model corporation for businesses nationwide. We are so pleased to recognize them this year.”
Among the criteria for which Campbell was named to EWNJ’s Business Honor roll are:
• Women make up nearly 45 percent of Campbell’s workforce; people of color make up 35 percent of its workforce.
• Five women comprise the 16- member board of directors – representing 31 percent of the board. This is compared to the 15% national average.
• 35 percent of women employed by the company are in managerial positions, 27.8 percent are in senior and executive VP positions, and 36.5 percent of women employees are among the 20 percent highest compensated employees.
• As part of Campbell’s performance management program, every salaried employee has an objective to “positively contribute to building and sustaining a safe, diverse, engaged and socially responsible workplace focused on delivering business results with integrity.”
• Its Winning with Women program helps accelerate the development of future women leaders and generate positive business outcomes.
• Initiated in 2006, the company has a comprehensive talent management and succession planning process to assess overall talent which includes a focus on women and people of color. Attention is given to development and retention, as well as the evaluation of individual participation in achieving diversity goals and attending training.
• The Women of Campbell, the company’s business resource affinity network, now includes 3,000 members worldwide.
• A formal mentoring program pairs high potential women and people of color with mentors for six to 12 months.
• Campbell offers financial adoption assistance, an enhanced Family Care center at World Headquarters in Camden, N.J., and 24-hour support and counseling for U.S. employees seeking help with things such as parenting, legal issues and self improvement.
• Campbell’s CEO Denise Morrison was an EWNJ honoree in 2006, and its Chief Legal and Public Affairs Officer, Ellen Kaden, is a 2012 honoree.
The Business Honor Roll Award was established in 1998 to acknowledge New Jersey companies that actively support the professional and personal growth of their female executives. The Award recognizes those companies that have made significant gains in two performance areas: the degree to which women are represented at the highest levels of the corporation and are actively involved in corporate governance and the degree to which the company has successfully implemented policies that help all employees balance work and family responsibilities.
Campbell Soup Company joins past winners Deloitte, Gibbons, Children’s Specialized Hospital, Cooper University Hospital, Prudential Financial, Summit Bank, Hoffman La Roche, Lucent, Johnson & Johnson, Schering-Plough, and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
