Long Island group will share over $200 million; two second-place winners from New Jersey

Powerball's jackpot will be going back to its beginning mark of $20 million for Saturday's next drawing, which isn't a bad prize in itself. One winning ticket has been sold for the jackpot in Wednesday night’s $200 million Powerball drawing.

Two tickets from New Jersey took a second place prize of $200,000 by matching five numbers but not the Powerball.

According to Lottery Post, a ticket sold at Maulik & Chandni stationery store at 496 W. Montauk Hwy in Lindenhurst, Long Island won the jackpot prize. The store has previously sold a $1 million winning lottery ticket in September 2006.

The final jackpot number wound up at $201.9 million. The winners are a group of 20 employees, all of whom work at a Costco store in Long Island.

A news conference had been planned for Thursday at the Costco store, but had to be cancelled because all of the winning employees were not able to attend.

ABC News reports the winners will claim the second largest Powerball jackpot of the year. The highest was the $221.7 million jackpot that two people from Indiana won on April 6.

Clearly winning this kind of money takes a lot of luck. And luck works in mysterious ways. Powerball.com reported that a retired maintenance supervisor from North Carolina, James Dixon, checked his numbers for the May 21st drawing in the newspaper, and then threw his ticket in the garbage.

Not long after taking his garbage out for pickup, he realized the numbers he checked were from an older drawing. Dixon got his ticket out of the garbage to recheck it and learned that he had matched all five white balls in the May 21 drawing, winning him $200,000.
