West Milford, NJ— Joyce Restaino, an accomplished writer/editor from West Milford, thought the Garden State was getting lots of attention (from the beach house to the state house); but that it was about time to shine a spotlight on smart, accomplished New Jersey women business owners.
"Week after week I was meeting lots of fabulous, smart and accomplished women as I was networking, and I thought - there has to be a way to showcase the real movers and shakers of New Jersey!" She approached Donna Thompson of Woodpecker Press, a new independent book publisher based in Bayville, NJ, and the rest, as they say, is history.
While it took over a year to get her initial concept to completion, Jersey Women Mean Business! Big, Bold Business Advice from New Jersey Women Business Owners: Practical Pointers, Tips, and Strategies for Business Success is publishing this week.
Restaino, along with Pattie Simone, journalist and CEO of WomenCentric.net, a transmedia tech startup serving professional women, Laurel Bernstein, an executive coach, and Caryn Starr-Gates, a marcom/PR professional, will have their first book signing event on June 20. The four co-authors will be sharing small business success tips and signing books at the Bookends bookstore, 211 East Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ from 6:30–9 p.m. To find out more about the signing, visit www.book-ends.com.
Restaino's chapter, “Five Big E-Mail Business Busters: Are Your Messages DOA (Deleted on Arrival)?” is based on an informal survey of business owners and businesspeople and how email impacts business relationships. Simone covered creative guerrilla marketing tools in her chapter, “Guerrilla Marketing for Serious Entrepreneurs: How to Build Buzz and Sales Through Social, Digital, Mobile and Other Thrifty Guerrilla Picks.” Bernstein shares smart tips on executive coaching, and Starr-Gates details insight and how-to's on publicity. Laurel Bernstein shares insight on her chapter here.
While the Big Bold Business Advice (BBB) book features savvy tips from 72 WBO's (women business owners) perspectives, the advice is not gender-specific; so every entrepreneur, professional and business owner can benefit from this book. Chapter topics cover everything a startup or growth-track company needs to succeed, including PR, leadership, guerrilla marketing, social media, finance, organization, hiring and much more.
The BBB series is the first state-based business how-to resource. Donna Thompson is already in discussions with other women business owners to produce NY, MA, SC and PA editions.
