A cyber attack on 600,000 Apple computers in the U.S. and Canada has left Mac users reeling in shock, reports the Huffington Post
Until now, Mac owners believed that they were practically immune to viruses.
Trojan BackDoor.Flashback39, a virus that exploits a weakness in the Java software, infected the Macs via compromised web sites, reports Ars Technica.
One of the most popular programming languages, Java is commonly used to design web pages.
The Russian anti-virus vendor Dr. Web was among the first to call attention to the cyber assault and they report that 57 percent of the infected Macs are in the US and 20 percent are in Canada.
“Apple did update Java to address the vulnerability being exploited by Flashback,†stated the website MacRumors.
However, Apple might not have yet taken care of the problem.
