Comedian Greg Giraldo, 44, has died after being taken to a New Jersey hospital for an accidental drug overdose.
Paramedics had to resuscitate an unconscious Giraldo – a regular on the "Howard Stern Show" and Comedy Central roasts – Saturday evening after what sources said was a wild party in his room at the Hilton East Brunswick in New Jersey.
"It was a like a zoo here," an eyewitness said of the party.
According to NJ.com, Giraldo had performed at the Stress Factory comedy club in New Brunswick Saturday and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he died five days later. A source said it was not a suicide attempt.
A source told TMZ, "Greg passed away today at the hospital in New Brunswick as a result of an accidental overdose. His family was by his side."The comic, a recovering alcoholic since 2005, was a father of three and has been open about his past substance abuse. Ironically, according to popeater.com, Giraldo was scheduled to perform at the New York Recovery Rally at Randall's Island Park in NYC earlier on Saturday to mark National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
According to the New York Post, plans for a public memorial service are reportedly in the works.
