A pro-life activist was arrested Friday for making death threats against British music superstar Elton John.
Neal Horsley, a 69-year-old gubernatorial candidate from Carrollton, Ga., was taken into custody for attacking the singer with his "Why Elton John Must Die" music video.
Some believe Horsley became enraged when the Grammy-Award winning singer/composer gave a controversial interview with Parade magazine. Elton John shocked many viewers with his statement that he believes Jesus Christ was a gay man.
This Elton John statement and overall interview resulted in the activist making an Internet video. The footage posted on YouTube shows Horsley protesting outside of Elton John's Peachtree Road condominium with a sign that reads "Elton John Must Die."
Horsley was booked by police and is being detained in the Fulton County. Horsley is charged with terrorist threats, criminal defamation and using the Internet to disseminate threats.
The gubernatorial candidate's bail is set at $40,000. Once he is released from jail, he must remain at the home of his son, Nathanael Horsley, who also acts as his attorney.
The elder Horsley has operated Internet sites that list the names of doctors performing abortions for several years. The sites have links to online cams that show patients entering abortion clinics.
In 2002, a federal appeals court ruled that one of his Websites that condemned abortion doctors can be held liable in civil suit because it didn't amount to free speech anymore, but illegal threats.
